Today we highlight a client who has quite a story.
When I first heard it I thought the staff was pulling my leg. It sounds like an episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza was carrying a huge wallet stuffed with all sorts of useless coupons, receipts, loyalty cards and notes.
He was sitting in the cafe complaining about his back and hip pain to Jerry when Jerry noted that he was sitting “on a slant” due to his obese wallet. Instead of taking the wallet out of his back pocket George just grabbed a wad of napkins and shoved them under the other hip, “essentially fixing his problem”.
This is exactly what happened to Daniel. He was sitting for prolonged periods of time on a morbidly obese wallet that eventualy caused him some hip and lower back pain.
After therapy Daniel had almost no pain and was back to carrying his hundred pound wallet.
He did not take our advice to carry a “man purse”. Can’t blame him.

Daniel’s story.
Daniel started to notice a gradual onset of some left hip and lower back pain. Like most of us he put it off but luckily only for a month before he decided to do something about it.
He went to his doctor who did an x-ray that didn’t reveal anything and was referred to us. Daniel had never been to physical therapy before and didn’t know what to expect.
When Daniel came to MOSS Rehabilitation Center he was in extreme pain, 7-9/10 in his lower back and left hip. He was not sure what happened but attributed it to sitting on his enlarged wallet.
At this point he was having numbness and tingling down his left leg into his foot along with dull achy pain in his left hip and lower back that made sitting, driving, working and walking very difficult.
He felt his symptoms were getting worse although the prescription pills he was taking seemed to help mask the pain. Luckily at this point his mobility and strength were only mildly affected.
Had he waited to come in we likely would have seen a large reduction in his mobility, strength and greater difficulty with daily tasks such as walking, working and sitting.
Because Daniel took action and started therapy early he reduced his pain quickly and was able to continue driving and working.
He was diligent in performing his home exercise program and attending all of his sessions. This gave his therapist the opportunity to modify his program as he progressed.
In only 6 visits he was ready for graduation and able to resume his activities 100%, allowing him to get his life back.
“Being my first time ever doing physical therapy, I didn’t know what to expect. I can say my physical therapy at MOSS Rehabilitation Center was a wonderful and healing experience. The staff is great and very friendly. I had no problems doing any of the activities and truly believe in physical therapy now. My pain has decreased dramatically and I am back to functioning at 100%! Thank you all!” – Daniel Rivas
KEY TAKEAWAY: Daniel acted fast once he noticed some lower back and left hip pain. Instead of “waiting it out” he was proactive and started therapy early which resulted in fewer sessions and a faster recovery.
